Costumer Reviews

I have a Toro Z4200 19hp (2007 model) with Gator Blades. It gives me the best cut of any rider I've owned which includes Murray and Snapper (traditional types). Even going through the tall grass it does not leave any clumps. This ZTR has cut my mowing time down by one third. I get such a kick out of it I often find myself mowing the neighbors' yards just for fun. I do have two negatives I should mention. DO NOT mow sideways on a slope as this mower WILL SLIDE sideways, especially if the ground is damp. The tread is not very deep on the rear tires so it is easy to spin and leave a rut if the lawn is wet even if the ground is flat. Also, it would be nice to have a gas gauge. Other than that, I'd be hard pressed to ever go back to a traditional rider as I can cut close around trees and swing sets in half the time. Parts are also readily available at mower shops and the Home Depot.

Purchased this mower today 7-11-2011. The learning curve is a little more than I expected, though my 13 year old daughter took right to it...Of course! I got stuck twice, the rear end of these things seem a little light and its not posi-traction, so, be careful is all I can say when you start out. Word of caution, stay clear of any embankments. If if looks questionable, just use the trimmer, you can find yourself in trouble REAL quick as a n00b.

I was push mowing my yard in about 2 and 3 quarters of an hour (Yup, almost 3 hours total, not a type-o). I completed the entire yard with two stops (As I said, I got stuck) in about 1 hour with the Toro ss4235. Not bad for a first time out! I might add that was at the "Low" speed setting. I can't imagine someone actually crazy enough to try and mow on "High". I think over all a ZTR may NOT be a good choice for someone who isn't willing to keep their mower clean and serviced. There are grease points for the front wheels and for the mower deck, the dealer said there were no recommendations for when to grease, but it's still a little more than your typical riding mower. Dealer says first oil change after 5 hours then every 50 after. I am a firm believer in keeping the engine oiled and filtered, topped off and the air filer clean. Again, I really believe if you are committed to keeping a ZTR in shape, your going to like how FAST you get your work done, really, I am impressed, and that doesn't come easy with me.

Ok, you will notice I did not rate the mower quite as highly as I could have. One reason only so far...Noise. I don't mean engine noise, though it is loud, it is a power tool. I mean the deck (Or something down there) rattles ALOT, right off the first mow. Makes me wonder about future service. I also notice the blades engage with the push of a button and the steering-speed is controlled by the handle bars. It makes me wonder what kind of repair bills I will be looking at in 3 or 4 years. When people spend this kind of money on a mower, they expect long lasting equipment...Time will tell. Overall, this is the right mower in this price range, I read all the reviews at all the sites for all the other brands, this is the one (I really did spend 2 weeks doing iResearch). So, stop reading and start mowing! PEACE!
