Belt slip ! MTD must have recommended wrong belt. Belt (954-0497)MTD recommended for the mower. I have bought 2 belt from two different suppliers, both the same size, both started slipping when first put them on, after about 15 minutes they where unusable.
PROBLEM FIX: I took this belt to Advance Auto Parts, they give me a Dayco 0458 belt, which looked like it was about 1 or 2 inches shorter than this belt. Problem Solved!
if you just follow the directions on the deck of you lawn mower, or in the owners manual, you will see that this is the right belt. Its really not that hard, however if you don't use the idler pulley it will slip.
